Tidbits of information - Grooming behaviour

Cat perform grooming behaviour purposely to remove dander, parasites, matts and loose hair in way to reduce the risk of parasite infestation. 

Grooming also help the cat to lose heat during hot day through cooling evaporation from licking. 

Grooming help to encourage social bonds between friendly animals by groom each other

Grooming behaviour went wrong when it been done excessively for insignificant reason. Cats may respond to aversive condition by demonstrate excessive grooming behaviour which they found more comforting rather than facing the problem. This nervous grooming behaviour can be cause of psychogenic dermatitis and alopecia.
